How can progressive eyeglasses bring people back to the young age?

When people turn 40, optical nervous system will start to lose clear vision and will be worse when getting older. In the age of 40, mostly, people will start to see unclearly in the distance of 40 centimeters. And when turning to 50, they will get unclear vision at the distance of 1 meter. That means if they wear bifocal eyeglasses, their vision will be clear at 40 centimeters and at the far sight. For the distance between 40 centimeters to 1 meter, however, their vision will be unclear. And when turning to 60 – 70, their vision will be unclear from the distance 4 meters down resulting in the difficulty in distance measurement which may cause them to easily stumble. 

What sparked your initial interest in progressive lenses?

When I made the first pair of progressive eyeglasses for my 60 year-old customer, he came back and said "They make me see things clearer no matter the distance, just like I did in the old days!  When I walk home the streets are so wide.  Everything is so vivid when I look at it."  Those eyeglasses made him so happy because he loved orchid, he needed to look closely to pick out the bugs on his orchid.  Whatever he does, reading books, or so, he didn’t need to change his eyeglasses.  One pair fits all.

   After all, I thought if progressive lenses could help a 60-year-old see like a young man, this could be the solution the world had been waiting for. I spent hundreds of thousands of hours experimenting on over 100 models of hi-end progressive lenses techniques to create the world's best progressive eyeglasses.  It took me several years to succeed.  Nowadays, foreigners from Europe fly to me to learn about it.

How long has it been since progressive lenses were created?

Actually, they existed more than 100 years ago.  The creator was a British but at first they were difficult to wear and hard to sale because of the extremely high cost and the complicated fitting process.  There were too many measuring steps that need to be done and has to be exactly accurate or else, they will be unusable.  So at that time, bi-focal were more practical. 

It’s been said that progressive eyeglasses are hard to adjust and many people couldn’t wear them, is that true?

It is true that there are still many eyeglasses wearers around the world who wasted their money for unusable eyeglasses.  This mostly causes by low quality and old technology lenses and a part of it is caused from incorrect fitting. 

   Presently, only half of the expensive progressive lenses are usable, while the other half caused discomfort and worked poorly.  Some even did not work at all.  Having spent a lot of time studying them, I could finally make progressive eyeglasses that work 100% for everyone with the special technique that I had discovered on my own.  Back in the old days, who could sell 10 pairs of progressive lenses per year is considered very good.  I was the first in Thailand who could sell more than 1,000 pairs per year.  Besides being the top seller, they were comfortable to wear, easily adjustable, and work for everyone.  I created the new world class standard of hi-end progressive eyeglasses fitting.  I dare to announce that all the bi-focal users can adjust to progressive eyeglasses perfectly.

Why did you agree to teach the arts of progressive lenses for both domestic and international students?

Well, that is my characteristic, that I did not keep the knowledge to myself.  There are 2 billions people that need progressive lenses.  I don’t think I can handle them all alone.  I don’t count other stores as my competitors, but they are my career-mates, so when I teach, I give them all I have got.  I have a faith in value of human.  I believe everyone has a great power that God has given.  I always tell them that “All you have to do is only believe and do what I say.  Tomorrow, the miracle will happen in you optic shop.”  I am famous for teaching for instant result.  I change the students’ lives over night.  If we can change somebody’s life to be better, I think that is the greatest and the most awesome thing in life.

 I have taught eight hours a day and everyday for over a year.  Malaysia and Singapore invited me to teach and the next year, Shanghai also did.  So, I developed a website, www.apcthai.com, where I have all the information on hi-end progressive lenses.

What makes you so confident about opening a hi-end optic store?

It all began with the idea to open a modern optic shop that designed highest quality of progressive eyeglasses.  My store became the best selling highest quality of progressive eyeglasses maker in the world.  Surprisingly, 98% of my customers were Scandinavian; Norwegian, Swedish, Danish, and Finnish.  Their word of mouth helped promote my business.  They told their family and friends that there was this optic store in Thailand who could make highest quality of progressive eyeglasses like no other, even better than those in Europe.  That’s how my fame got spread worldwide.  Many European customers told me that they used to be skeptical about my progressive eyeglasses because they were relatively inexpensive.  They had presumed they would be of poor quality.  Once they had tried them on, my progressive eyeglasses were even better than ones they bought in Europe which cost more than a hundred thousand baht.  That was when I realized it was time I announced, “Thai people make the best hi-end progressive eyeglasses in the world.”

Many people have said that if the center of the eyeglasses is not centered, the eyeglasses will be uncomfortable to wear.  How do you center it correctly?

At ISOPTIK eyeglasses center, we start from using digital pupil distance meter to measure the eyes centers.  Our noses are not always in the center of our faces, so we need to find the center.  When we got the eyes centers, we have to set lenses centers with 9 paths digital lenses power measuring machine that is capable for 0.01 diopter detail measurement.  Later on, we grind the lenses with digital 3 dimension system that is 0.01 millimeter accuracy.  Lastly, we adjust the nose bridge to fit the wearers and again check the centers.

Do most of the optic shops worldwide sale high quality progressive lenses like you?

Most of the optic shops in the world believe that progressive hi-end eyeglasses are extremely expensive.  There are only a few consumers in the world that are willing to buy, so they sale only those low quality and old technology ones.  I believe everyone who has eyesight problem needs high quality hi-end progressive lenses.  When they get to use them, they admit that the lenses are expensive, but last for many years or approximately they only pay a thousand something baht per month.  This is why I am the top-sale of many thousands baht pair hi-end progressive lenses and I become internationally known for it.

I have heard that every pair of eyeglasses from ISOPTIK has been measured every detail which costs around a hundred thousand baht and takes about a month time.

Yes, that’s true.  A pair of hi-end progressive lenses is priced from 18,000 baht to 80,000 baht.  One pair takes 45 days to make, from the eye examination, analysis, trial, designing, and placing order to fitting the lenses into the frames.  I am dedicated to making each and every pair of glasses as precise as possible.

Who are your customers?

Majority of my customers are the ones who desire for extremely excellent vision.  Many times, my customers told me my eyeglasses make them wealthier, happier, and more comfortable, 95% of them are Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Managing Director (MD), and high level management both domestically and internationally, including family members or Specialist and even business owners.

Is there any customer who specially impressed you the most?

One Norwegian client loved his progressive eyeglasses I made for him so much that he brought his 85 year-old father who had to carry two pairs of eyeglasses with him – one for shortsighted and the other for farsighted.  He used to make a pair of bifocal and progressive eyeglasses in Europe, but was not good enough.  At my shop, I tested him and let him wear some sample lenses.  He became excited because he could see very clearly in every direction he looked.  He could even walk downstairs without tripping!  When I saw his smiling face, I was so proud.  With this lens you can see right away what you pay for.

How do you see the customers who are medical doctors because they have to take care of patients’ lives?

I see that the lives of the patients depend on the quality vision of the doctors.  The more quality vision of the doctors is the more helpful to his patients will be.  Many surgeons retire themselves because of their vision.  How wonderful it is to have those high experienced doctors back to work and help patients again.  The recent technology of hi-end progressive lenses can now make that possible.

If my new pair of eyeglasses gives me dizziness even though I tried to wear it for a few weeks, should I continue wearing them?

No, they will only make your eyesight get worse because you have to always adjust your eyes to them.  If you continue doing that for months, you will actually be able to wear them, and that is not what it is supposed to be.  It will directly effect you eye health which lowers your working performance.

   If eyeglasses are measured correctly, use high quality lenses, and fitted properly, it would take no more than 72 hours for the wearers to get used to. 

   In the case of mistaken measurement or using low quality lenses or fitted improperly, dizziness and unclearness will appear.  If you are still trying to use it and up until 3 months, the brain will work harder to try to adjust to the lenses and this causes the eyes to get exhausted easily.  The other parts of the brain will then get less attention and so the abilities are reduced.  Most people do not aware of this.

Why eyeglasses on extra curved frames cause dizziness and unusable?

Most of the optic shops around the world are stilling using old technology for frames that are curved no more than 5 degrees while curved frames these days are 5 times curvier than before.  The old technology couldn’t fit with the modern frames and that is why they cause narrow vision, twisted view, and dizziness.  There are still many people to pay a lot of money for unusable curved frames eyeglasses.

You always say, "Life is too short to limit your vision." What do you mean by that?

To limit your vision is to limit your life. We do not live forever, so why limit your vision just because you want to save a small amount of money? Besides making eyeglasses, what else you are interested in?

I want to take care of the eye health of my customers.  We are the only optic shop in the world at the moment that offer taking photo of the eye nervous system for every customers and let the doctor analyze the result. 

At ISOPTIK, we check basic eye health of our customers by doctor of optometry and with the closely cooperation with the hospitals.  We often detected that the patients may have thyroid or problems in veins.  We will have the patients to go see doctors.  I think this is an important step of taking care of our customers at one level.

What is your future plan?

Apart from being the leader in hi-end progressive eyeglasses, I want to take care of people’s vision from birth until the end. I want to set up optical care centers for children, for students, for working people and for seniors. More than 300 million baht will be invested. Our concept is no prescription, no surgery and no diagnosis. We will be the centers that provide basic care for the eyes and collaborate with top-level optometrists to help people see the world better. It’s not just about seeing better – what we aim for is great vision in a long run.

Do you have a bigger dream?

Yes, a lot.  Today, I still have dreams, I have an important goal that I will succeed, but now I am lack of investment money.  If I can generate a hundred million, I will expand ISOPTIK to have a hundred eye test rooms with a hundred full time doctors of optometry and every type of doctors in order to service customers from all around the world for no less than 1,000 people a day.  On the area of 10,000 square meters, ISOPTIK will be the lenses collector center with every brand, model, and collection of high quality frames.  I want to rent the entire ERAWAN BANGKOK building, if it is not enough I will also rent the building next to it.  I would like to let the world know that if you want the best eyeglasses, you have to come to ISOPTIK.  I want to prove myself to the world that “Thais make the best hi-end eyeglasses in the world”, later on, I might open branches in Dubai, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Copenhagen, Munich, and all the huge cities around the world for after sale service.

Are there any other dreams apart from being the biggest and the best eyeglasses center?

At the moment you are successful in you job and everything else.  Do you think all of it is the prize from your effort?

No, I do not think so.  I think all of it is what God has given to me.  I have a job to give it to everyone else.  We Christians believe that we get blessings from God and God assigned us to give blessings to others.  The heart of Christians is if you can make someone’s life better means you have served God.  This is the great job of being human.  To make someone’s life better and to change someone’s life is the best and greatest thing human can give human.

It was a bright sunny afternoon with a fresh breeze blowing from the northeast. The small sloop was making a series of very short tacking maneuvers as it made its way gingerly up the narrow channel.

The forest marched down the steep rocky hillsides to abruptly meet the sea below on both shores. The tiny but sturdy craft was tossed precariously by the rip tides created in the close waterway. The sole occupant reset her grip on the tiller and brought the sloop around in yet another tack headed toward a little niche in the eastern shoreline. She was kneeling in the boat's compact

She noted her time of arrival and location of the tiny sheltered anchorage, the weather which was close to perfection for a sailor and a personal note that this seemed a great spot in which to write and create.
